Excelsior Fencing Club is pleased to announce we will be hosting an epee training clinic for those of you who want to improve your competitive skills. Andrew Hu from the Canadian Fencing Academy and the Toronto Fencing Club has agreed to run this camp. Andrew was a coach with the Chinese National Epee Team before moving to Canada. One of his students won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Prior to his coaching career, Andrew fenced in numerous international competitions, winning several medals. In Canada, Andrew has competed at the provincial and national level, including a win in Senior Men’s Epee at Septemberfest last year.
The exact hours of the training clinic need to be worked out with St. Louis Church and the Grand River Karate Club, but we expect it to be from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Andrew will have two assistant coaches to help him but he has asked for us to keep the registration small, so we will be limiting registration to 20. If there is enough demand, we may be able to fit one or two more in. This will allow an excellent coach to fencer ratio. The price will be $60 and will include a one-on-one lesson with Andrew. Even though this is an epee-specific training camp, fencers from sabre and particularly foil will benefit from this kind of training camp. As registration is limited, please sign up soon. A registration list will be available starting Wednesday, March 17th, 2010.
