September is here meaning it is time to start a new fencing season! With the new season comes registration time. Please choose the program you are interested in and register. Once again we will be offering: Mini-fencing; Beginner Fencing/Intermediate Fencing; Recreational Fencing.
Please note that we are introducing the Canadian Fencing Federation’s Armband Program this year: http://www.fencing.ca/downloads/armband_program_eng.pdf . As in past years, we will have an informal competitive program. Please talk to your coach if you are interested in competing at tournaments.
For information on any of our programs, please contact Jennifer Caslick at (519) 745-1381 or email her at manager@excelsiorfencing.ca .
A new fencing season is about to begin and we are again looking for people interested in helping to run the club. The following opportunities are available:
–
The Video Analysis Program is in need of volunteers to perform camara work for lessons and at tournaments. Camera and non-linear editing experience are assets, but are not necessary.
Volunteers are needed at a variety of promotional events in the next few weeks. KidsPark, Medieval Faire and Mall Registrations are all coming up and we will need people to help talk up the club. Parents or fencers are welcome to volunteer.
Septemberfest is coming soon and we will need volunteers to help run the tournament. We will need help with set-up, registration, canteen, armoury, clean-up, tear-down, etc.
As always, we are looking for interested persons to train in coaching, refereeing, tournament secretariat and armoury.
–
Interested individuals should express themselves to Jennifer Caslick at the club or by email to manager@excelsiorfencing.ca .
The St. Louis Church Gymnasium will have it’s floors done on the last two weeks of July, so we will be shutting down for that time. Beginner classes will resume on August 4th. We may organize a summer potluck picnic during this time so keep an eye on this website for details!
For those of you who were wondering, our second annual Fence-a-thon will be held Wednesday, Febraury 24th, 2010. The rules will be the same as last year, with maybe one or two small tweaks.
For the new people, the Fence-a-thon is a fundraising event based on an in-house fencing tournament. Fencers set a goal of how long they will fence and then get sponsorship from friends, relatives, neighbours and the like. Fencers who participate will be eligible for fencing related prizes.
This year, we hope to use the funds we raise for a trip to a fencing tournament. Full details about the where and when of the tournament may not be available until after the Fence-a-thon. An updated list of rules and prizes will be available next week!
