Excelsior Stratford is a sister-club to Excelsior Fencing Club of Kitchener/Waterloo, a vibrant and decades long established fencing club who offers a range of coaching, resources, equipment and programs as a regional hub for the Ontario Fencing Association and Canadian Fencing Federation. Excelsior fencers belong fully to each of the two locations. Excelsior trains in all three weapons – foil, epée and sabre – used in fencing.

Excelsior Stratford is also fully electric.

Further details:

The Tuesday program will have free fencing and more junior (14-20 yrs old), adult programs along with the competitive team (see below). Sunday afternoon will remain under 14 youth oriented and some competitive team training. Mini-fencing is only on Sundays at 3 pm.

Mini-Fencing Introduction to fencing for the 6-9 year old set. Complete plastic equipment (mask and weapon) which teaches basic fencing while adjusting for size and safety. All three weapons are introduced in this specialized program. Runs 45 mins and 6 weeks with smaller class size and more instructors.

Sabre/Epee: Starting in September 2010, Coach Constable will introduce sabre lessons for those interested. In January 2011, there may be epee training if demand merits the weapon lessons.

Recreational Fencing: Some fencers may not wish to take group lessons beyond the intermediate level and become ‘recreational’ fencers. A rate of $110/four months (or $300/annum) allows access to club times and scoring equipment but not ANY club equipment (weapons, lame, bodywires) and/or formal lessons. Recreational fencers can rent access to electric equipment for $40/term.

Competitive Fencing: XEL as a club will formally be submitting a competitive team program in the Ontario and further fencing circuit. The teams will be junior ages, adult and veteran (40+). There will be additional training and costs as well as some travel to competitions. This is an exciting development as it will transform both our fencers and programs are XEL competes provincially and nationally.
